Unpleasant surprise

Mom here:

Guess who finally chewed the Greenie and discovered the pill? Guess who also had another chance soon after this morning and guess who again left the pill and ate the Greenies. This isn't good. It's the only way I have to get her pilled. No..trust me, I am not able to do it by popping it in her mouth myself. Getting her to the Vet each day for them to do it is a non option as she is hidden most of the day til late afternoon out of fear of going. The trust issue is big now as I have had to take her over and over. No use adding more to this, just telling you what happened. Liquids don't work by the way, she refused to even taste her food with them. The gel didn't work either you may recall. This was our last ditch effort.

Not sure when she'll write her next blog. Up to her.

P.S. I wasn't kidding when I said I can't pill her. Not by myself. No, there is no one to help. Plus she is very afraid as I said and spends most of the day till late afternoon under the bed. There are already trust issues.

Oh dear. Does she like cheese? The smell is so strong, maybe you could crush the pill and mix it with some cheese?

Admiral sweetie, I know the pills suck, but if you don't take the pills, you will need to go back to you know where!

Oh dear, sorry to hear this. Holding thumbs that something changes. Shots by you? Sounds dramatic but we had friends who had to give daily insulin to their diabetic shot and it worked ok.

Oh no! Pill pockets worked so well for Molly who had to take thyriod meds twice a day! Admiral is too clever for her own good.

Why are you doing this to mommy. Be a good girl and eat the pill!!

We sure hope you eat your treats with the pills, Admiral! The pills are what is keeping your fur so beautiful.

I too wonder about shots--I had a kitty with bad kidneys--I had to run subcutaneous fluids 4x a week for a couple years. I inserted the needle between his shoulder blades--he didn't even react. I don't think they have much feeling there. The biggest problem was keeping him still for the IV drip, but you wouldn't need to do that.

What about a squirt of liquid into her mouth, maybe mixed with human tuna juice (instead of mixed in food).

Crush pill (mix with ?? soft cheese or baby food) & put into greenie as a paste?

O heavens, I am so sorry she's so darn SMART. She is sooooooooo much like Spitty.

Not the pill pockets, either, quickly pushed down her throat? I thought I couldn't pill Annie, either (and 3 vets couldn't), but I did manage to get pills into her the last couple of days. Maybe by then, though, she was too far gone to struggle over-much. :-(

I wish I had another option to offer, Carole.

(((Hugs))) and Light to you both.

ACK! I don't have any good suggestions...maybe a different pill pocket flavor would fool her?

Darn Cats are so clever. I'll keep thinking...

Oh dear. the only thing I can think of that hasn't been mentioned yet is a grooming bag. They are something that you put cats into that secures them, rather like wrapping them up in a towel so that you can do what you need to without getting bitten or scratched. Trust issues or no, she needs to have this done, and if you give her loads of treats and things after and before the pill, you many find she won't bother all that much.

I am sorry; I hoped this would be the solution. Maybe one of the suggestions above will work. Fingers crossed.

I'm sorry I have now suggestions and sorry to hear you're having this problem.

Okay sweet Admiral, you need to start cooperating or you won't like what you have to go through! We are all good at taking pills here, it's really not that bad sweetie!

The only suggestion I have is wrapping her in a towel. I am just awful at taking pills, too, to the point where I run when I see mama coming with anything in her hand. I'm so sorry this is happening. Maybe you can crush the pill and mix it into her food?

We have no helpful solutions or suggestions for you to get the Admiral to take her pill. But we are purring that you can come up with a plan and that the Admiral will cooperate.

Hi Admiral's Mommy,

Darn it. We had hoped this would keep working! Maggie and Moosey both figured out the pill pocket thing after a while, too, so I certainly understand the issue you're dealing with. I, too, wonder about shots, and perhaps the cheese option could work, too...

In any case, we are purring and praying that you can figure something out that works well for you and our sweet friend Admiral.

Hi Admiral's Mum,

My mum usually disolves my pills in water and them she puts this liquid in a seringe and she sticks the seringe (without the needle) down my mouth. I don't like it, but I have to swallow it anyway.

Have you tried this?

I hope it works...

Oh dear, it's a good thing I came in late and read your most current post first. Otherwise I'd be very alarmed. ADMIRAL - if you want any more smooches - you have to EAT the PILL POCKET AND the PIll.

Fin sometimes finds her pill and then after a day or so she forgets again. Make sure the greenies are really soft or the lose some of the smell that attracts them.
