Memorial Day

Memorial Day and the Fourth of July are extremely important days to my mom. She has told me a lot of stories about them and while she was not in the service, nonetheless she did her part as well in her career.

Here are the words to TAPS. They never fail to bring the sting of tears to mom's eyes.

Day is done,
Gones's the sun
From the hills, from the lakes, from the skies
All is well, Safely rest,
God is nigh.

Verse 1:

Day is done,
Gone the sun,
From the lakes,
From the hills,
From the sky,
All is well,
Safely rest,
God is nigh.

Verse 2:

Fading light,
Dims the sight,
And a star,
Gems the sky,
Gleaming bright,
From afar,
Drawing nigh,
Falls the night.

Verse 3:

Thanks and praise,
For our days,
Neath the sun,
Neath the stars,
Neath the sky,
As we go,
This we know,
God is nigh.

We love the music Taps and the words. Very beautiful - especially nice when played by a trumpet. Always brings tears to M's eyes when she hears it.

Taps is a very moving tune, the words too. Take care, Admiral and Mom.

Miss Admiral, we didn't know Taps had words! But it makes sense. Our Daddy and GrandPaw both served in the Navy.

The Human's Dad was a Marine Captain who served two long tours in the South Pacific and then occupied Nagasaki after the war. She (and I) are very thankful to all those who serve, today and everyday.

You have NO IDEA how much trouble yours truly is in with the Ladycats of the Lounge, my darling Admiral! But you're worth every bit of it ;-)
