NOOS FLASH!!!

Kitties!!! I think I may be going to be much better. Thanks to a fellow kitty Tweeter I finally heard about a kitty who is having his prescribed Prednisole applied via a gel pen. That is what I use for my methimizole for my hyperthyroidism, but I did not know that Prednisolone came in a gel pen form. And thanks to Teri who researched it for me, I was able to present some printouts for the Vet to refer to and he has prescribed the gel pens for me.

That is the medicine, the Prednisolone that I so desperately have needed and won't take orally. Even if it isn't as well absorbed into me via a gel pen, it's beats having nothing at ALL..and nothing at all was what I have had. It has to be applied every day but I am allowed, the vet said, to have a Saturday off occasionally so mom can go see one of her sons at long last. Oh, she could go now but with me being so sick and not allowing the pet sitter to even see me so I can be medicated, she just stays home. Maybe now she can go.

Kitties, things may be looking up at long last. I will fight her about it. She's allowed to do my one ear each day but I will fight having the other ear done. That will be too bad for me.

I am happy and mommy is too. Oh, and I got a pill to jump start my eating again because I quit a day and a half ago. ♥

Admiral, we didn't know Pred was available in a gel pen, either. We wonder if it is in Canada yet. The mom had to give Annie Prednisolone (for some reason she can't recall, Prednisolone is supposedly better than Prednisone--maybe just a newer version?) via syringe, several years ago, and that was a terrible ordeal for them both.

So we're glad you'll get your meds in an easier form and we hope they do the trick! How long will you be taking it? If long-term, of course be tested regularly for Diabetes, since long term use can lead to that disease.

Purrs and kitty kisses...and EAT.

Yay...Teri loves ending her day knowing she helped another kitty!! And for cats, Prednisolone is better than Prednisone because cats metabolise prednisolone better than prednisone(they have to convert prednisone into prednisolone in their bodies anyway before they can use it) so it is usually better to give prednisolone in the first place....Prednisone is converted by the liver to prednisolone. Animals in hepatic failure should receive prednisolone instead of prednisone. Systemic prednisolone is preferred for use in cats over prednisone because there is some question if cats are able to convert prednisone to prednisolone.

This is great news! Funny enough I am just the opposite - I prefer having a pill shoved down my throat than having my ears messed with. Strange, isn't it?

Oh YAY! Now, I'm sure that gel pen on your ear is not **nearly** as much fun as having ME nibble gently on your furry protuberances, but it's better than having to go to that dam* v*t all the dam* time, right?

Besides, you KNOW I will come over and soothe you after that hideous gel pen attacks you.

Don't forget to come over tomorrow so you can be the guest of honor at my Blogoversary. You can have the first jar of Gerbers...but only if you sit still for your Mommy to gel up those ears.

This is very good news Admiral. When I didn't want to eat my prednisolone, my mom used to put them in my treats box so they smell good to eat. But I fought very hard anyways to tell her that it would not be THAT easy to please me. I think now that my mom knows about the gl, I have to find another way to tell her who's boss. But I know things are looking up for you.

Carole - tried to email you but it got rejected.
Tablet info as requested. I grind down the pill into a powder which I mix with a small amount of water and choose one of her favourite flavour foods and put a small amount on the dish and mash it in well (I have no idea if the steroid tastes so I try to give a tasty flavour one). I only use a small amount of food so if it isn't all eaten I can top it up later and try again.
Hope this helps.
Regards Sue (Hannah and Lucy's mum)

Hurrah for gel pens and Teri! That's really good news Admiral and we hope that you don't fight too hard because you do need your medicines and your Mummy does need a little break too.

I hope the medicine can get you back on top form again very soon.
