The One Who Came Before Me

I was thinking about what mom and her human kits have said on occasion while we were all in the living room. Robin, The One Who Came Before Me, was also a Tortie but she was mostly black with orange and buff little places attractively arranged on her furs. She had an orange paw that with age, turned to a soft butter color.

Mommy said and her human kits agreed that Robin was truly a cat among cats. A beautiful wee 5 pound wonder girl much beloved and cared for. She came when called usually believe it or not. She was allowed out--I, the Admiral never have been--but she had to be inside before dark, for the night. Many times Robin would come to the deck to be let inside if we were late calling her. They never learned her well taught lessons though..never EVER open the door without looking. Especially at night. She was mostly black, you remember I wrote- and in the dark, you could not see her..just hear her. They would absently mindedly open the door on her knock. She would tap her paw to the window or storm door, whichever and we would let her in..day or night.

HOW MANY TIMES she brought a live field mouse in with her to deposit in front of them for their supper..how many TIMES did she bring in a small snake..still wiggling..how often did she bring a small rabbit, still alive, a chipmunk, likewise alive and wiggling...a squirrel, a lizard, multiple bugs, birds, a frog..you get the idea and STILL..they would open the door without looking until the snake. Countless times thru her 16 years. That snakie finally cured them and they kept a flashlight on the table near the door to shine on her face. No more surprises. They would go outside and praise her and let the prey loose if still alive.

Mama's baby, Robin ultimately succumbed of renal failure despite all the green papers and love and daily trips to the v-e-t and them coming here. Much beloved..so preternaturally smart..but most of all, much beloved. Rest in Peace dear Sisfur before Me. Our mama and her kits loved you deeply. After all, you helped raise them all.

It was so nice to get to know Robin who was a wonderful tortie girl ... we can see how dearly loved she was and how missed she is. 16 years is a life well lived for a cat, but never long enough for our hooman Moms. We feel with remembering those that came before they are always with us in our hearts.

A sweet remembrance of Robin. We can never forget our previous pets as they all have a special place in our hearts. 16 is a long feline life. I have read that some lived to 25yrs.

Robin sounds a lot like Christopher, the founding member of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Kitty Horde. Although he managed to learn that mom didn't like presents in the house and it only took once of leaving the present where mom could step on it for him to start leaving it to the side of the door where mom could see it and praise him. Then he trained all the other members of the Horde how to do that as well.

He also lived to be 16 and passed away from renal failure after dealing with kidney disease for about 6 months. He was all black (with a teeeeeny tiny black spot where his belly button would be) and had many adventures. He had Siamese in his background and spoke quite a bit, "Mee-in!" "Mee-out!" "Mee-ooom!" "Neee-ooow!" "Nooooo!" etcetera. He always knew who was sick in the house and would go lay on them, even guests. He protected both of my children as soon as they came home from the hospital, laying at the end of the cradle and only allowing the other cats a sniff.

I understand completely.

Miss Admiral, thank you for telling us about Robin, who was certainly a Cat in a Million. You had some big paw prints to fill, which we think you've done admirably...pun intended.

Purrs to your Mom for sharing Robin with us.

Robin was a sweet girl. Sometimes the Human tells me stories about some of the Kitties Who Came Before me, and I like to hear about them.

Miss Admiral, that was a very nice post about Robin. This post could have been written about either of the boys who were here before - except neither of them were a tiny 5 pounds! She was a beautiful girl, and we're sure she's thought of often.

Your friends, Fuzzy and Zoe
